I've (another) open query about the early systems on the plus. I think I have opened pandora's box ;)
According to Apple's spec sheet, the Plus is bootable with system 1.1, 2, 2.0.1, 5, 5.1, 6 (and up to 7.5.5) But LowEndMac claims that it "requires System 3.2 to 7.5.5" My (albeit limited) experiments show that system 2 certainly works, and 1 works until you want to shut down the computer (and can't since there is no shut down command). And 3 and 4 seem to work too.... Is there a reason that LEM implies 1 and 2 don't work (and 3.1 for that matter)? Is there a reason that Apple *excludes* systems 3 and 4? I've found little solid documentation for these early systems. Since Apple has decided that they should not be distributed, they seem to have pulled any documentation that even refers to them. [As an aside, I had to laugh. On their older software downloads page, that pegs out with system 6, they have a warning that everything there is "considered obsolete and may do harm if improperly installed. Please use extreme caution"-- which made me wonder whether installing system 2 would cause a small explosion or something!] I'm curious since the early systems do differ, and I've forgotten so much. I'm pretty sure I never used system 2, and the version I have is really quite different from either 1 or 3. It would be gratifying to learn more. Everything I've seen on the web about compacts really focuses on system 6 or later. *Are* there any sites that provide more information on "the early" systems?
