Might be a good idea to check the basics. Try another ether cable. If
possible try hooking the iMac DV to another computer and see if you can
establish a link. These shouldn't take too long and might save you a lot
of hassle

Indeed. Make sure if you are not running through a hub or switch that you
have a crossover cable as well.

And if you can, stick a piece of 10-BaseT equipment between the two, since Asant cards are known to have problems auto-negotiating a connection speed.

BTW, anyone have any ideas if this might be a software problem rather than a
bug in the card's ROM? If it's a driver issue, it can probably be fixed. If
it's a ROM bug, well, anyone got a ROM burner? :)

I do, I do. <jumping up and down waving arm.> I just bought it a few weeks ago and I've been wanting one for a couple of years, so I'm very excited. No one I know seems to share my enthusiasm--you'd think everyone would find a chip programmer exciting. The only bad thing about it is that I had to get a PC in order to use it.

Unfortunately, I do not have the skill to reprogram NuBus or PDS Ethernet card firmware, so someone else would have to modify the code. But if you come up with code, I can get it into chips. Anyone have an 'in' at Asante? Perhaps they have a fix but it isn't worth burning and distributing chips? A long shot but one that would simplify matters.
