The off topic gauge would be ticking so I think Stuarts advise should be asked. >So the only conclusion is that the box is working okay but the this >some kind of electrical mismatch. The imac is >dhcp. > OS9X.... The imac runs some version of Open transport, you might make a seperate static config for testing. TCP/IP cp, file:configurations from the pulldown menu or (command k)? Mactpc is a bugbear :) I dont really understand it. For mine, I choose manual, set the subnet to 255.255.255.0. For gateway (under where you choose manual ect) I set the routers local address, to the right I input the DNS servers static address (the same as the gateway in my case). Since I need a domain name to both close the Mactcp window and make use of M$ ICS I input the domain name of my cable connections local router's address which is vic.optushome.com.au, M$ ICS baukes if its different. Your router is different at this point? Once this is done and the window can be closed, it brings you back to the reduced version with the "more info" button down the bottom and your network options up the top. Choose Ethernet builtin not ethertalk then put in the static address that suits your need in the box in the middle. Close the Mactcp cp completly. It may ask you to reboot. Up again, open the mactcp cp, check what you have put in then click more info, on this page I set the option from manual to dynamic, close the window, now the ip address you chose earlier is faded in the first window. Close MacTCP. Dont know if that step makes any difference but it does stop accidental muck up's, I've always used it. That's what I use for the Dayna ends connection. The imac should only require a static address in the same range, subnet, domain name (same as your normal setup and the Dayna machine) and x-over cable. I'm in the middle of installing the Dayna on to OS6, I'm interested in the appleshare its meant to install. :) >The performa runs 8.6 the classic runs 7.1. imac runs 10.2.4 and 9.2. > Many smart folks here, I sure cant help with X.2.4. Should be able to get something going under 9.2x and you can go from there. Sounds like your at the config end. If the imac is set to recieve a address from a dhcp server, hooking it up to a compact with a static address and x-over cable means you cant get a address on the imac so it defaults to a completely different (machine local) ip address. This may explain your "activaty light" problem. >Anyway I'll have another go some time, BTW don't waste to much time on >this I'm only experimenting. > Good luck, have fun. hope some of the ramble helps -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
