It actually uses the original 9" CRT, but with drive electronics and yoke from the 12" Hi-Res (!) screen.

I have printed it (your poor man's grey scale project)and on page 1 I can read that you connect its [12"]electronics to the 9"CRT.
I vill read it thoroughly this afternon.
