Yo compacters everywhere,

Forgive the brag but it was a good day in the triftshops, a very good day. A triple
crown sort of good day.

First stop at Goodwill found eleven Mac book titles of good use and interest at ninty
nine cents each.

Second stop at the local computer recycle store got me seven hard drives at two bucks
each. Four were 1 - 1.6 GB drives both IDE and SCSI with immediate use for them. Two
were 500 MB SCSI drives. And the last a 160 MB itty-bitty Powerbook drive that will
get a 'book 180c back into action. To this I added an original 128k pristine looking
keyboard and a Kensington System Saver. This pile cost me 17 bucks total. Then,
because I'm known to haul off Mac stuff to keep other Macs going, They just gave me
four SE/30s whose only apparent fault was they were missing their hard drives. The
four cases are clean and they have motherboards. Needing SE/30 motherboards real bad,
I accepted their offer to just get 'em out of the store as fast as I could. Oh, and
then I asked a question as just how one opens a Duo Dock all the way down to the
bottom without damaging it. So they gave me three dead Duo Docks to practice on. Do
you realize each of these Docks has a hard drive and many other goo!
dies in there? These puppies even have one of those very hard to find 68882 FPU
chips, the kind with the springy contacts all the way around. There is a lot of stuff
in these Docks useful to beef up some of our latter compacts.

Third stop was at the Salvation Army where a perfectly good 575 with keyboard, mouse,
and an external 500 MB hard drive were just sitting. Knowing of the "secret" turn-on
switch, I phhongged it into life to find it working quite well. The eighty buck price
tag did not impress me until, going out the door, I saw the sign saying this was a
fifty percent off sale day. I went back and bought the 575.

I don't see good days at the triftshops very often. Most are busts. This one was quite
the day.

Bill
