A spring loaded welding clamp is thin enough to fit the gap between front and rear cases on a compact Mac. It spreads the load sufficiently to avoid damaging the cases. Like Antonio, I usually find that shaking the case (over a cushioned surface) is sufficient to separate the two halves.


If you open a compact Mac frequently, try spraying some silicone polish or lubricant onto a cotton wool bud (keep the spray away from the Mac and from polished floor surfaces etc) and wipe it along the case gap.
