So I ran the HDSC utility (which came with my previous Classic) to reformat the 80 mB HD, but to my utter amazement this operation made the HD shrink to 40 mB.
And as a subsidiary question: I tried to install 6.0.7 on the Classic II, but that did not work.
I think the answer to both questions lie in the fact that the Classic II was released with 7.0.1 and therefore cannot run 6.0.7.
See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=112179
The Classic was released with 6.0.7 and this version of HDSC cannot (?) handle the hard disk size.
I'm kinda guessing but using my own past experience.
Go for the best version ever released, System 7.1
That'll run flawlessly on the Classic II, but add more RAM first.
