I think it was on this list (I have also been talking compact Macs
on the G-book list) someone was hailing the Plus over the SE/30
due to it being fan-less.

I just had a thought, wouldn't it be excellent if one could use
one of these new pocket memory sticks instead of a hard drive!!!

Cost not a problem, size not a problem, power down not a problem.


I remember a discussion about this subject some years ago. Maybe someone did a bit of research. You might wanna google for it.
Personally I use a zipdrive (pretty silent) for startup and if I want it to be quieter still I start up from floppy disk. I use one floppy disk with a system folder and one floppy disk with an application and some room for documents (which I copy from the zip). Works just as well. I own a life time supply of double density disks, most of them unopened (as new) boxes.
