May I suggest <http://www.swcp.com/~jchavez/osmond.html> for PCB design. This program will output Gerber files which are accepted by the board manufacturers. I'm not sure how well it will work if you need to do a print for transfer using a home-brew PCB etching. I've used it for two boards I had made so far and think it's pretty spiffy.
