The Sony drive could have been replaced under an extended warranty repair scheme that Apple offered. Unfortunately I think you've missed the deadline by about ten years... Note that after the fiasco with these 20MB and 40MB drives, Sony stopped making hard disks.
Eh. I'm sure the conversion was fairly common way back when. But this is the
first I've owned.
All sorts of conversions were common. Does your SE have FDHD ROMs (to support a 1.4MB floppy drive) or the originals?
