Given that you are considering an l/b replacement anyway, you could
always try the old "wash the logic board in the dishwasher" ploy. As
long as you dry it thoroughly, this method seems to have a surprisingly
high success rate.
I'm assuming that you've already ruled out the obvious, like scsi
termination issues (I don't know precisely how the diagnostics do their
thing, so they may or may not be sensitive to termination problems).
