I don't remember anyone saying that the IIfx ROM didn't work.
I have had success with the IIci (homemade), IIsi, and IIfx ROMs in the SE/30.
Of the three the IIfx would be the most available

I have the IIfx ROM working in my SE/30 as well. Only real issue I have had is that when the machine is cold booted, the intitial screen is a little wonky looking as it sits and checks the 128MB of RAM. After that, everything is fine. I can't remember where I saw that the IIfx ROM worked at, but I'm pretty sure it was this list.
