Once AGAIN we return to Pluses and SCSI external drives. I have a 2GB Seagate Hawk in an external box I'd like to use to boot my Plus. Trouble is when I attach it to the Plus it doesn't get to flashing a disk/? icon it just goes black after the RAM test. It boots and works fine with a 6.0.8 floppy and no SCSI devices. The drive is set to TE (Termination Enabled) and TP (provide Terminating Power) and hooked up via a straight 25-50 pin SCSI cable. I've usd this arrangement before on the Plus (with a different drive), but I've tried 2 other ones now and neither works right.
If the drive is fuctional, and the SCSI cable is good, I can think of two things that are likely to cause the machine to freeze at boot time.
First, with what software is the hard drive formatted? The formatting software can cause all manner of problems by being too recent for the old operating system or too old for a newer operating system. For older machines I like to use APS PowerTools but there are other good choices.
Second, it is possible that the Plus's SCSI chip is defective, but that seems unlikely.
