Apple once said, and I paraphrase a bit, "Every Macintosh ever made is network ready via AppleTalk."
I believe that to be true but I have never been able to find the required software. I think it might have been delivered only with the purchase of a Lisa-based file server.
I really want to make my collection of old Macs work while using my network for software storage. Somewhere there is a bootable disk for a 128 or 512 Mac that opens the printer port and responds to, or creates, AppleTalk mount requests.
AppleShare serving ability wasn't a standard part of Mac OS until System 7.
Any Mac from the 512 onwards can be an AppleTalk client.
Look at pages like this at the mac512 club:

The site should give you hours of happy reading!
