Ok i got around to makeing a cable, and it talks to the sun through the Printer Port, but ZTerm still says cannot open port when i tell it to use the modem port on my SE. So what could possibly be using the port, i dont have AppleShare and MacTCP unloaded, and AppleTalk is set to inactive. There isnt anything on this mac that i can think would be using the port. Its ZTerm .9 on OS 6.0.8
On any other computer one would use the serial/modem port, any particular reason you prefer the printer port?
Other computer tend to use different software for a pararell connection which will allow a better type of connection than using the serial port but you wount use Zterm.
At a guess your system has reserved the port for a printer and so the printer port is busy.
I've very little trouble connecting two different machines serial ports with thier modem cables and a adapter in the middle and then use a term program, this includes macs.
Dont give up, your not far off.
