I have to agree with this poster.  Don't spend too much on a compact 
mac class machine.  There are plenty of people who don't know or don't 
care about compact macs who will sell cheap or even give you one of 
these machines.  A great place to look is LEMs own swap list I hear.  
It is best to try to find one local, search out local thrift stores as 
they tend to have the caliber of machine often.  Perhaps some one in 
your area has what you are looking for.  The most expensive part of 
buying a compact mac is the shipping so if you can find one in your 
area that is that best way to get one.

And as Mark said "One's man trash is another man's treasure", as the 
prices on eBay run from the ridiculous to the sublime. Especially the 
ads that start with:

RARE!!!!  VINTAGE APPLE COLLECTORS ITEM!!!!!!!

(chuckle)........

And then you read down a little and realize the person selling it has 
no idea what an SE/30 is, what the configuration is, or even what 
System software it's running. And then: "Great for word processing" 
and everybody on this list knows the SE/30 was so much more than a 
word processor........specifically with a big hard disk and lotsa 
memory it makes a damn fine little file server.
