As the other listers have said, you can indeed attach a CDROM drive to a Plus. One 
additional tidbit is that, if you want to keep using sys6, you will absolutely need to 
get the desktop manager extension and put it in the
system folder. Without it, you will encounter a frustrating loop of error messages as 
your Plus attempts to rebuild the CDROM's desktop. You can get it here:

That, plus the 5.3.1 driver set, will get you up and running fine.
