By the way, what happened to the "Network Card for SE/30" thread? I was approached directly by someone offering to check if he had one around, but who never came back to me. Is there a chance of someone in America purchasing some for distribution to list members in Europe? I recall there were several of us who were interested...

Hi Everyone,
Can I hook an external CD drive to my Mac Plus (OS 6.0.8) or will I need to upgrade the OS? I'd really rather not upgrade it since i've gotten so many comments strongly suggesting that 6.0.8 is very good on a Mac Plus. I understand that at Jag's House (www.jagshouse.com) they have a CD there for around $8.00 that has a bunch of older Mac stuff.
What would it take to hook up and use an external CD with my Plus? Software? Hardware?
Thanks for any help. I appreciate it.
Have a great weekend everyone, Steve

Yes. Get a SCSI CD-ROM. I have one I use for my NeXT computers and my Classic II. :)

You can connect a SCSI CD-ROM to your Plus. My only advice would be to obtain an Apple drive (either an external unit, or an internal unit which you put in a SCSI enclosure) since this will allow you to use Apple drivers.
Non-Apple drivers are probably more common, so if you want to go that route here are a few recollections: CD-Sunrise provides HFS CD support on many third party drives, and is free; there are documented patches for Apple's drivers (but these may be System 7.x specific); and there are various commercial third party drivers (FWB CD-ROM Toolkit, Spot CD), but some of these may also be System 7 specific -- but should support non-HFS formats.
Byron.
