Really? I've used both IIci and IIsi acceleration stuff in my SE/30s. It's
that lack of straight-up adapter that made me not keep it going.
I asked this question earlier and was informed:
There is an active device (or two) on the adapter. It is a PAL or PLD or some variety of programmable logic device. I have the adapter for the IIsi but I discussed this in email with Gamba before he disappeared and the SE/30 adapter also has one or two.
The IIci and SE/30 PDS slots are wired a little differently. Hence the adapter is a necessity. "Designing Cards and Drivers for the Macintosh" has the respective pinouts listed in it.
Some day I would like to take a 5V source, some switches and some LEDs to that PAL and see if I can determine its logical content. But I'm back in school for a semester and taking four labs, so that day won't be this semester.

I have a 40MHz DayStar 040 accelerator that is currently in my IIci. I also have an Asante PDS NIC for either SE/30 or IIsi. It has a passthrough connecter, which the DayStar physically fits into, but at 90 degrees, not straight up. My first thought was that I could remove both connectors and wire the two together, but then I was unsure if the adapter (which I've never seen) was just to connect the two items together physically, or if there was something else going on. The above answer indicated that it was more complex than just "a bit of wiring :-(
Y'see you can't plug a Daystar directly into an SE/30. You need the adapter.
The IIsi's adapter is angled. You need to gut the SE/30 to make it happen.
Straight adapters are hard to find.
So can you confirm that whatever adapter you used on your SE/30 had more on the card than just wiring and connectors?
I suppose I could just try it, but I don't want to damage that very nice DayStar!
