I know I should probably check the FAQ for this first, but I have lost that
link. If someone could send it to me again, I will bookmark it ASAP!

I was wondering if there is a way with system 7.1 to change the desktop
image from the blue screen to a BMP or JPG image? If so, how do you go about
doing it?

Also, does anyone know of a program called Concertware? Is it still
available for the older Macs?

Subject: A New Color Classic Owner

Well, thanks to Hal Meeks, I have an upgraded Color Classic on the way to my
house to replace the SE/30 that was stolen from my van. Now, for everyone
who doesn't know my level of experience with computers, let me clear that up
before I get to my questions.

The SE/30 was the only Mac I have ever owned, and thus, the only one I
really have ANY experience with. I used it mainly for recordkeeping when I
was on the road with my photography business. Of course, I had a few
programs intalled on it that did not apply to my photography, such as a
tetris game, the Talking Moose, and a game called Fool's Errand. For my
photography, I used ClarisWorks, and Hypercard. I had all of these program
disks in a pocket that was inside the carrying case for the Mac. When my
SE/30 was stolen, the perpetrator made off with not just my computer, but
all of my program disks as well. So as of right now, the only remnants of my
Mac that I have left are a couple of floppies with small files on them. I
have no program disks or master disks of any kind.

So, back to the drawing board now. When I get the Color Classic, how will it
differ from my SE/30? Other than the color monitor, I mean. My SE/30 had no
upgrades done to it, so it still had all of the basic functions and
equipment inside. According to Hal Meeks, here is what has been done to the
Color Classic: It has been upgraded with an LC 550 motherboard with 68030
processor. Upgraded to 36MB RAM, and has been given a 1.2GB hard drive. An
FPU (?) has been added to speed things up a bit. It is currently running
System 7.1 with upgrade 3.0 installed. How does this performance differ from
my stock model SE/30?

Also, is it possible to connect the Color Classic to the internet? I'm not
too concerned about using it to surf the web, I just want to be able to load
programs onto the computer, and I have no other way to connect to the
internet other than using my home PC. If I can't connect it to the internet,
can I use my home PC to download Mac programs for copying over to floppy? If
the Color Classic were to need a clean wipe of the HD one day, how can I get
disks that will allow me to do that? Can they be downloaded from the web;
and if so, can I use my PC to make the floppies for the Mac?

To put in in a nutshell, my only experience with Mac was my SE/30. I have
played around on a Performa 5260-120 at a friends house, but only for a few
minutes, so I didn't really get a chance to probe all the goodies that the
Performa had to offer. One thing I did notice about the Performa was that
the graphics/displays were rather blotchy; obviously something that would
make using it for Photoshop pointless. Is there any easy way to overcome
this handicap, such as upgrading the graphics; or will that cost hundreds of
dollars in time and money when it comes to my Color Classic?

Any information on the CC and it's capabilities would be most appreciated!

Daniel
