Hi Folks, I have been looking around to see if its going to possible to get a Mac Plus working with System 6.0.8 and AppleShare so I can boot from floppy and load all my applications from a shared folder off my PowerMac G3 over AppleTalk. This should give me a silent, useful Mac Plus! I intend to do it wirelessly too!
In addition to being fun, I want to see if I can actually do something with a �4.00 (UKP) computer thats comparable to what I do on my �2k (UKP) laptop :) Here are my "ingredients": Apple Macintosh Plus, 4Mb, 800K Floppy Asante Localtalk to Ethernet Converter Buffalo Wireless Ethernet Converter System 6.0.8 AppleShare Network Software 1.4.4 RAMdisk 3.23+ 800k Floppy Disk Assortment of wires to power and network My intention is to create a boot floppy that sets up a 2Mb RAM disk using RAMdisk 3.23+ and copies the system folder into the RAM disk. If I can I will get it to ask me for a second floppy disk that will copy the needed AppleShare files to RAM too then reboot to the RAM disk. If I can't get it to ask for a second disk, I will have to reboot to the RAM disk, then install AppleShare and reboot once more. Once initially booting from floppy I should be able to boot from RAM disk, connect to a share my other computer and access all my applications over the wireless network AppleShare connection to my PowerMac G3! If this works, I might see if I can get TCP/IP added and see if I can use the machine over the network for things like IRC, Web and Email - now that would be cool! I will be trying to get all of this working this weekend, so I will post my results - in the meantime, does anyone know of anything I should look out for or anyone have any suggestions?
