(...from Vintage-Macs list)
A friend gave me a Mac Plus. I substituted a working floppy drive for the deffective one on the computer; formatted and installed System 6.0.8 onto the external HD that came with it. However, every time I start it after a long period of inactivity, it does not find the startup external disk. I have to start it from a floppy, restart or shut down a couple of times, until it mounts the external disk. Only then I am able to start from this external disk.
The computer has no battery. I threw it away because it was liking and corroded. I suppose that is the problem. But wouldn't the Plus look for a startup volume connected to the SCSI port when it does not see a floppy in the drive?
I've been looking without luck for a place to buy that type of battery.
