Yes, there is a terminator on the external drive. I'll try another one later. Now, I don't know what an "in-line" terminator is. Should I change the SCSI ID? I think it is set to 1. There is nothing else on the SCSI chain.

What I try is changing the SCSI ID to 6. Then backing down one number at a time until I see a result or none.

I would also remove the terminator and see if THAT helps the Plus
"find" the external.

It appears, so far, the reason for the Plus not seeing the HD was really the missing battery.
Yesterday I placed a 1.5v "AA" battery, following Jeff's suggestion, and it has been starting from the external disk OK since then.

I want to thank everyone in this list who helped me get the Plus going: Jeff, Peter, Ken, Stuart, Dr.O.M.Betz... Sorry if I forgot anyone.

I've already installed AppleShare Workstation and connected it to a IIsi and also a 6100. It's flying like a bumble bee :-)
