The Mac or rather unix equivalent is dd ,normally:

dd if=imagefile of=/dev/fd0 (or whatever device you are writing to)

I don't know what device the floppy drive would be on OS X as I haven't got
one, I have also found that I have needed to convert some image files using
DiskCopy before I could succesfully write the disk image out.
