So the problem is that I want to connect w/ tcp/ip-- I'm connecting to the
g3 w/ appletalk.

When I say "the router doesn't recognize it" I mean it doesn't show up as a
DHCP client... and as I'm typing this I realize that it would only show up
if the router was assigning ip addresses which it is not because I assigned
the address *manualy* (does this make any sense?)

I assumed it wasn't working based on that and based on the fact that when I
try to ping the SE from the G3 (using WhatRoute) it failed...

Then I tried pinging the G3 from the SE (using MacTCP-Ping)-- and it WORKED.
Not only that, but when MacTCP-Ping was the active application on the SE, I
could ping the SE from the G3 as well (?!). Even after quitting MacTCP-Ping
the G3 continued to "see" the SE.

So now I just have to load up an email client and try to actually access the
outside world. As this adventure has taken up too much of my working time
already, it may be a while before I can try this out.

Thanks for all the help,
Stay tuned,
