Physically, the mechanics of a Macintosh drive aren't very different from the
ones of a PC drive. The main difference is the auto-eject mechanism, that
doesn't affect at all on the way the disk is read or written. The speed
control is done enterely in the analogue board of the drive, controlled by the
computer's disk controller, much in the same way you can tune a PC drive's
speed by adjusting its speed potentiometer. The slight variation in the
rotation speed (about 20% in the outer tracks) doesn't affect very much the
writting proccess.
