Drake, has your research proved the proverb "Learn Joseki, Lose Three Ranks"?

I have a theory, based on my own experience with joseki. Knowing the right move
is not enough; one must know what to do with the wrong moves also. Joseki often
skate at the edge between "good for black" and "good for white", and they also
tend to be strongly influenced by conditions such as ladders.
