When SP2 released, hackers studied it carefully, and noticed all the targetted scripts in the system, so anyone who didnt download and install SP2, was vulnarable to attack, so I believe the same happens to SP3, and is the same reason why you keep downloading and installing updates, and especially the security related ones. I run SP3, and although i believe it is causing some minor errors yet on the machine, I will need to be safe, and guarded (although not much to lose, but the idea of being hacked would kill me).
