A simpler way to disable Indexing is to right-click on whatever logical drive you have in Windows Explorer (on WinXP anyways), choose properties and Indexing service is the second checkbox at the bottom, rather, it is the last checkbox option on that screen.
Note that you need to do this on every individual logical drive you have.
