How are you composing your emails? HTML or Plain Text format? Maybe that has something to do with it, although when I try either way I get an active hyperlink. However, I've noticed that the way it displays is slightly different for each method. When using HTML format it shows as underlined, but it does not appear to be active (although it really is--it just requires a control-click to launch). In plain text format the hyperlink appears more normal (odd that plain text hyperlink would look more normal than HTML) in that it show the "hand" when moused over.
If that is not what's going on, then I'd bet on one of the security settings.
