Even at normal operating temperatures (don't know how hot yours got), the seemingly mild heat from the battery and power supply are enough to cause mild burns to your thighs (even through pants) or where ever the computer is resting and how long has the computer been used? Check for accumulation of dust on fan and internal heatsinks. If it's really dirty and you have access to service manual (Intel acer), take it apart and clean out the cooling air path completely with a canned duster.
