Sure, its very simple to do that. But dont forget, if your old comp has an ATA disk and the new one SATA, its not compatible. He actualy cant go wrong, the connector is so different he will know the second he looks at it. I agree with you about "its pobably the disk", i googled your error code and all top hits were about disk poblems with Dell comps. I'll try to gather some more info and get back to you on this a bit latter.
