You could always try opening it and just not telling HP about it? KwikOne is right though, that may or may not resolve the issue. Otherwise yeah you may need to flash the BIOS to reset it, if you have the first option, then removing the battery for about 30 seconds would do the trick.
Not sure if you've considered this or not, but if you have a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate, Enterprise or a few other options, You can encrypt entire volumes using BitLocker Drive Encryption.
