Ceresia, He had said it was not recognized on another PC - My conclusion... This is a dead drive - most likely an electronic component and except for crashes this is the most common cause of a dead drive. And when this type of problem occurs there are no warning, symptoms of impending failure before hand. At least hard drives are much more reliable than when I first starting working (repairing) hard drives (for computer mainframes) back in 1972.
