First thing, I usually find is dust... unplug all connectors and blow with
air.. reconnect and check

I would start at western digital faq/ support information

Your probably going to need some basic diagnostic tool.. specific for mybook
(your specific model)
keep in mind you could pull the drive out of the enclosure and try
connecting it internally... that would
eliminate the hardware of the mybook and leave you only with the hardware of
the drive itself...
