While I do know quite a bit about computers, some of the more elusive
technical anomalies happily stump me from time to time. One such is
this. My Desktop (Running XP) utilizes a Hitachi SCSI 500 gig Hard
Drive. It is about, oh... a little over a year old.

The problem is during some programs. I'll use games for example. Low
end games, such as WoW, Dawn of War 2, and Left 4 Dead do not cause
the Hard Drive to gain any volume. However, when running higher end
things such as Portal, Half Life 2, and Champions Online, the Hard
Drive nearly screams for the duration of the program. After I close
it, the sound slowly tapers off back into the norm.

It is not a scratching sound, or a bump, or anything like it. It
simply sounds like a whirring, like it's spinning much faster than it
usually is.

So my question would be... is it a concern? Should it be a concern if
I run said programs for extended amounts of time? Maybe the fan needs
to be cleaned again?

Thank you ahead of time for the assistance :)
