It is a shot in the dark but try the MSI Cleanup utility provided by Microsoft. Once installed and launched you are able to see programs installed on your computer. Make sure there is only once instance of Office 2003/2000 on the list. Try to uninstall office, run the cleanup utility to be sure it is 100% gone and reinstall.
