Well i always knew that magnetic fields (from huge speakers or subwoofers) next to CRT screens make the colors do some funny things, but i am not sure it effects LCD, but i can't think of something that would do such a thing to an LCD screen.. maybe try moving the pc case it self a lil far or something. Next time u get this smearing move the screen without turning it off, you might find out what direction makes it go worse and figure out what is doing this.
