This was bought with Win7 and Office already installed.  Was doing the
flaky network thing before I did anything to it so I have a feeling
it's coming from something in the base system.  I have since installed
tons of other applications and loaded up the 640GB drive pretty
heavily (I use a 1.5TB drive for my data).  Wipe and re-install would
be a week long task and I have a feeling I would be right back at
square one.

That's a good idea.  Might drop out everything and see if it works and
then start adding things back in rather then dropped things and
rebooting.  Booting into safe mode with network I am online instantly
and fast every time without fail which tells me something is loading
on regular boot that is doing this.
