I can't believe you got back so fast from the Apple Store, Mike! Please go pop open an Apple desktop computer and look at the innerds. You will recognize many things/makes. Models are often different and Apple rarely uses the same low quality components in PCs. The components you see will often be high quality. Start with the power supply. Examine each of the components and notice how they are connected. I always enjoy working inside my two year old G5 because it is so well constructed and easy to add things to.
