I don't have any criticism to offer of Macs, they are very nice
for Mac-type people. Who don't tend to be experimenters.
I think a more accurate statement might be that "Mac users don't tend to be
_tinkerers_". I am a scientist and I do a LOT of experiments. I just choose
to focus my energy on experiments that are meaningful and likely to help
society and not on tinkering with my computer.
Maybe I should have said "experimentalists."
I was trained as a scientist and I can appreciate the attraction
of the invariant instrument. But sometimes calibration has value.
Our techniques vary. I simply do not accept that a closed OS
and a limited hardware choice represents any value other than
emotional security.
