My soldering skills are not as good as they used to be (did a lot of
electrical hobby work years ago)
My biggest problem is getting the proper glasses so I can see the boards!
However I have worked on PCB's before. I just have not opened this
one up yet, and the connector is complete yanked out of it. That was
my question.

If the connector completely broken off? If you still have even a little
bit of the 4 metal contacts in place you might be able to jam it into a
USB socket. The outside metal seath is not required.
