Today NPR ran a story about the Bush purge of military leaders. They reported on a West Point survey that found 80% of the top brass are wingnuts who provide answers based more on political than military considerations. NPR cited some evidence that Sec of Defense Gates is a bit alarmed by this. Off topic or not? Twenty years ago, I could only get books about computers at one special store. Today every mall bookstore has lots of books about computers. Twenty years ago, computers were an exotic topic of technical contemplation. Today legislators pass laws all the time that control how we use computers.
