I am not a great expert on this, but I have the same problem
time-to-time with Thunderbird. Here's what I do (altho you might
already have tried these with no luck):
First, I reboot the computer -- Windows XP -- twice. Often this solves
the problem. If not,
I already tried that.
(2) I unplug the cable modem and the router. Plug the modem back in,
wait a spell, then plug in the router. If this doesn't work,
That worked for sending mail but, I still have to go to my ISP's website
to get my mail.
(3) I exit the firewall. If still not working,
I will check on that.
(4) I press the reset button on the router which brings it back to factory
default.
I will try this.
(5) At this point, if it is still not working (happened to me only
once), I go into diagnostic mode. I try restoring XP to an earlier
date; I hook directly to the cable modem without a router; I check the
incoming & outgoing email server settings (and switch them to different
ones); I delete the server settings and reconfigure them; I call my
email provider for help; and as a last resort I uninstall Thunderbird
and reinstall.
I'm sorry that I can't advise more besides these novice instructions. I
am replying only since there has not been a more knowledgeable response
to you posting and wish to help.
I don't have any 'Restore Points'.
I know the server settings are fine because, I checked those, after I
un-installed Zone Alarm.
