Do this.
Find out what you wife's favorite movie is.
Take her to the store you are considering buying the TV at.
Have them hook up the DVD player to both a SDTV (similar to what you
have at home) and the LCD TV you are considering buying.
Once she sees the difference at what the movie looks like she will
probably be OK with it.
