Thanks Michael and Rev. Stewart and everyone. I am almost there. Can I do
this with my USB dongle that allows me to connect it to the bare new drive
and Norton Ghost 2003 which I already own ?? Anyone comment on the ata150
backward compatible to ata100 issue? ...tia!

Like Rev. Stewart said, I upgraded from a 50G Hitachi HTS54106 to a 160G WD
using Acronis True Image. I never bothered checking with the helpful IBM
support guys.

I bought a 2.5" mini-enclosure (Bytecc)with USB 2.0 from Newegg, installed
the WD in it and dongled the new HDD to the ThinkPad. I burned a clone with
Acronis, de-installed the Hitachi and installed the WD in its place. Booted
right up! I swapped the Hitachi into the Bytecc enclosure and now I've got
an offsite backup for My Documents. It was fairly painless.

I have a T61 ThinkPad and it is definitely ATA150. Go to the IBM/Lenovo
site and verify your config or just pop out the drive -- it's pretty easy --
and take a look.
