Uh, no, Tony. You did NOT start this thread. I did, in my love/hate
relationship with Flash--good Flash vs. bad Flash. And you're showing exactly
the kind of attitude that has made Microsoft such a problem for everybody who
doesn't use M$ products, AND for people who do. Microsoft doesn not create
standards, it steals them and then breaks them so that they only fully work in
Windows. Those of us who are "multilingual" [using multiple platforms] know how
to deal with their bad code, but it sure would be a wonderful time if they
would learn to play nice with everyone, and to use Internet WWW standards.
Thank goodness that the EU is giving them a big slap in the face for hiding
APIs from third party competitors. There are some issues with Apple products,
but, since OS X is based on BSD Unix [Bill Joy's project pre-Sun] the
foundation is available and open. The main problem with incompatibility for OS
X is developers using assumed APIs before the stable ones are released, while
Microsoft bends over backwards to prevent their code from working with others.
Sorry to disappoint you, Tony. Professional videographers who expect their
work to be used for movies and television don't use non-standard,
non-professional formats like Windows Media even where it may enclose real
standards like MPEG [or use DV], although they may release WM videos after the
fact for people who don't know how to use the real standard formats that they
create--my brother can't figure out anything but WM and Real, but that's not
his job. Pros do use Macs, and Windows, and Unix with software that works.
I'll add details when I get home.
