You can also move the ethernet to the lower floor
with a pair of powerline ethernet adapters. The
model i use has RJ-45 ethernet on both ends, but
there are versions that have cat 5 on one end
and wireless on the other end. Hook one unit
up to the router and for the other, wherever you
have a power outlet, you have a network connection.
