Switching (hopefully) to RCN internet and phone today from Comcast and want to do before and after speed test comparison. Also want to test speed as loading sites seems to have gotten much slower lately, getting back to dial-up type speeds, it seems. Tried a few free test sites - some no longer exist, one keeps closing Firefox and SpeakEasy returns download speeds of around 27 kbp (that Kilo, not Mega!), so suspect this isn't accurate. Or maybe it is, with experiencing these slower loading times.
So 2 questions, really - a) any good, reliable, hopefully free, sites to test speeds? b) any thoughts as to why loading might be getting significantly slower, even if I close other applications? The guy from RCN just got here, so we'll see; keeping fingers crossed - especially as to customer service. Figure it really can't be too much worse than Comcast's, right? Pretty good deal, incidentally, so it seems, for phone, internet and unlimited long distance - all for $46, for one year. For $75 could throw in cable, but can't afford it and also can't really afford to be tempted to watch more tv (not that I watch that much now). Though saw flyer yesterday for $15 phone (including long distance) service from Verizon yesterday. Fine print was too small to read, so not sure what the catches might be.
