maybe I'm not clear on this. I buy the ug's for a grand or two. I show it the old floppy, and load CD's with the new program. the program wants the original purchase floppy to load. >>I need foxpro. the version I have is on a floppy. it does not transfer >>and load with a dvd. > >No you don't need FoxPro. No, I do not. the program is a database program written in some version of foxpro, and comes with runtime foxpro. however, if I wish to muck with it myself and pull unique reports, then I need foxpro. maybe there is a psuedo fox pro out there that will work better, or I could learn how to program in C or B or D some such, and extract the outside information I want. >>my payroll program wants to see the old payroll program to ug. old is on >>a floppy. > >This gets worse and worse. Your business is hanging by a thread. I could hire ADC and pay them $150 a month and a buck a check. spend an hour putting together the information they want. I've never missed a payroll. takes the office person 5 minutes to enter payroll, and another 5 to print the checks. then 10 minutes to put them in envelopes and distribute them. data is compiled and printed in couple minutes and goes to the accountant. I can get a replacement of the same software for only $2000. then I would not have to show the floppy, I would show the cd for the next year ug, or I could spring for another 2 grand and get a brand new 2008 cd of the data. If I dump my business package, looks to me like the best swap is to the new greatplains now owned by microsoft and called ms small biz, or some such. they will sell me a $100000 package, and convert me over for another $100000 of consulting fees. i cannot run peachtree or cougar or one of those things. they for store fronts. sounds to me like you are one of those guys who convinces a company that you can write something newer and better, and they end up married to him/her for 5 years while he debugs and the company goes back to the old software so it can do business. friend of mine did that. took two years to give up. I think the FAA & the FBI have had great difficulty switching from"old" technology to "new" technology. too many bugs to even be able to run. the library of congress will not archive to CD(good decision). my software has had bugs, but I have always been able to get the job done in an extremely efficient manner. paying $100 or 150 or 200 for the latest ug and having to use a floppy to load is not nearly as dumb as a small business spending a quarter mil to buy software that one has to learn, modify, and make work, or hiring a "consultant" to write something better for a complex diversified small company that need a lot of interactive modules. >************************************************************************ >* ==> QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in <== >* ==> the body of an email & send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <== >* Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name >* Too much mail?
